ADI introduced a 28nm digital-to-analog converter AD9172

ADI recently introduced a 28nm digital-to-analog converter, a new line of high-speed digital-to-analog converters (D/A converters). The AD9172 meets the needs of gigahertz bandwidth applications and enables higher spectral efficiency to meet the needs of 4G/5G multi-band wireless communication base stations and 2 GHz E-band microwave point-to-point backhaul platforms. Its design is also beneficial for production instrumentation for multi-standard direct RF signal synthesis. In addition, the AD9172 provides a solution for defense electronics applications that require a large detection range. Based on 28nm CMOS technology, this device offers a new performance benchmark by providing superior dynamic range, signal bandwidth and low power consumption far superior to other solutions. The AD9172 and the complete new analog-to-digital converter portfolio will be presented at the International Microwave Technology Symposium.

The dual, 16-bit, 12 GSPS AD9172 provides direct RF signal synthesis up to 6 GHz, eliminating the need for IF to RF upconversion and LO generation. This simplifies the overall RF signal chain while reducing overall system cost. The AD9172 maintains excellent linearity and noise performance at these RF frequencies, providing system architects with the highest level of configurability. Independent numerically controlled oscillator (NCO) modules, digital gain control, and multiple input filter combinations per input channel provide designers with a wide range of signal processing options for flexible processing between analog and digital domains The signal chain segmentation further helps system designers successfully develop software-defined platforms. It can be used with the 28nm analog-to-digital converter (A/D converter) AD9208. .
