CeraCharge - First Solid-State SMD Rechargeable Battery

The TDK Group took the lead in introducing the first CeraChargeTM solid-state rechargeable battery with compact SMD technology. On request, the CeraCharge can perform charge and discharge cycle times from dozens of times up to 1000 times, with a compact EIA 1812 package size (4.5x3.2x1.1 mm), a rated voltage of 1.4V, and a capacity of 100 μAh. Can withstand up to several mA in a short time. Due to the use of SMD technology, the battery is very easy to deploy and can be soldered with reflow soldering technology to help customers reduce the production costs of end products.

 

Compared to the most commonly used technologies, CeraCharge is a solid state rechargeable battery without any liquid electrolyte. The battery uses a multilayer technology similar to MLCC, which combines relatively high energy density and small original volume, as well as the safe and high-volume manufacturing characteristics of ceramic multilayer components. In addition, the use of solid ceramics as an electrolyte eliminates the risk of fire, explosion, and leakage of liquid electrolytes.

 

For large-capacity and high-voltage applications, several CeraCharge batteries can be used in parallel and in series. This makes it useful for a variety of applications, especially devices for the Internet of Things. For example, real-time clocks, Bluetooth beacons, wearables, and energy harvesting systems.
