Intersil Introduces Highly Integrated Multi-Cell Battery Monitor

Intersil, a leading global semiconductor solutions provider, Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE: 6723), today announced the availability of the ISL94202 3- to 8-cell battery pack monitor to support applications such as vacuum cleaners, lawn trimmers, handheld power tools, and electric Systems that require lithium-ion batteries and other chemical batteries, such as bicycles, scooters, electric toys, and electrical energy storage. For the safe use of lithium-ion batteries, systems need to be monitored and protected. The highly integrated ISL94202 battery pack monitor enables ultra-small 2-terminal design and accurate monitoring and protection of rechargeable battery packs for cell balancing and safe system operation.

The ISL94202 integrates high-side charge/discharge FET drive circuitry, making it easy to connect to a variety of tools or electrical equipment. In addition, the device can also control external passive cell balancing switches to ensure good cell energy matching while protecting the cell life of the battery pack from long-term under-charging. In addition, the ISL94202 can withstand factory battery pack assembly hot-swap events, greatly simplifying the manufacturing process.
