Linear Technology Introduces H-Class Version of the Single-Phase Flyback Regulator LT8304/-1

Linear introduces the H-grade version of the LT8304/-1, a monolithic flyback regulator that guarantees operation with junction temperatures up to 150°C. By sampling the isolated output voltage directly from the main-side flyback waveform, these devices can be regulated without an optocoupler or a third winding. Operating over an input voltage range of 3V to 100V, the LT8304 integrates a 2A/150V DMOS power switch to deliver up to 24W of output power, making it ideal for a wide range of automotive, industrial, medical, and military applications. The new LT8304-1 version is customized for high output voltages up to 1kV.

Operating in boundary mode, these devices are a variable frequency current mode controlled switching scheme that typically produces output voltage stability better than ±5% over the entire voltage, load, and temperature range. The boundary mode allows the use of smaller transformers compared to an equivalent continuous conduction mode design. Several ready-to-use transformers are listed in the datasheet for use in a wide range of applications. These devices are highly integrated and operate in low-burst burst mode (Burst Mode®), thus providing an easy-to-use, low component count and high efficiency solution for isolated power supplies.

Other features include output short-circuit protection, 116μA no-load operating quiescent current, accurate enable and undervoltage lockout and hysteresis, internal soft-start and loop compensation, and output diode temperature compensation.
