STMicroelectronics Introduces New Graphical User Interface Configurator to Make STM8 Microcontroller Design Faster

Tuesday, August 28, 2018

STMicroelectronics' latest STM8CubeMX g graphical interface configurator makes product design based on the popular 8-bit STM8 microcontroller faster.

The STM8CubeMX supports all of ST's mainstream low-power automotive 8-bit microcontrollers, and the new free development tools help designers select the best STM8 product family for their application needs. Designers can also develop applications directly on STMicroelectronics' STM8 development board. First, configure the tool according to the configuration of the microcontroller on the selected board. Then the STM8CubeMX provides multiple graphical interface tools to help complete the basic configuration of the selected microcontroller. These configuration tools include conflict auto-resolving pin configurators, dynamic verification clock tree configurators and power sequencers, and power calculators. Once the configuration is complete, the tool will generate a configuration report showing whether the designer's requirements have been met.

From IoT hardware, smart sensors, to high-performance automotive microcontrollers to a wide range of mass-market electronics, STM8 microcontrollers are used in a wide range of applications. The STM8 microcontroller family has more than 125 products ranging from ultra low power (STM8L) AEC-Q100 certified (STM8AF/AL) products to mainstream STM8S premium, basic and enhanced series. The STM8 microcontroller is the most cost-effective solution to help designers meet the size and power requirements of their application designs, with core processing performance up to 20MIPS/24MHz, built-in up to 128KB of flash and 6KB of RAM, peripheral interfaces including ADCs, DACs, and comparators , timers, LCD drivers, DMA, AES encryption and digital interfaces, and market-specific features. For example, automotive microcontrollers offer LIN/CAN interfaces with package pins from 20 to 80 pins.

The STM8CubeMX PC Edition software supports the three major operating systems Windows®, Linux® and macOS®.
