60V, dual, two-phase boost controller capable of cascading outputs to regulate voltages in excess of 200V

Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) announced the Power by LinearTM LTC7840, a two-phase asynchronous boost controller that drives two external N-channel power MOSFETs. The device can be configured as a single or dual output boost regulator, or if a higher voltage is required, the output of the first channel can be fed into the input of the second channel, producing a multi-hundred volts Output voltage. A typical application of the LTC7840 is to boost the 12V input voltage to 48V with the first channel and boost the 48V to 240V with the second channel and deliver up to 700mA of output current, making it ideal for automotive, industrial and medical applications.

The LTC7840 operates from an input voltage range of 5.5V to 60V and regulates the output voltage based on the selection of external components. Out-of-phase clocking can be used for up to 4 power stages to minimize input and output filtering requirements. The external MOSFET performs switching at a fixed frequency (setting range 50kH to 425kHz) and can be synchronized to an external clock. Each channel of the LTC7840 can also be configured as a SEPIC or flyback topology, giving it a high degree of flexibility. Other features include adjustable maximum duty cycle, adjustable minimum on-time, and overload and overvoltage protection under peak current mode control.

The LTC7840 is available from stock and is available in two thermally enhanced 28-pin packages: flat 4mm x 5mm QFN and TSSOP packages. Class E and Class I devices are specified over the operating junction temperature range of –40°C to 125°C, while Class H devices operate over the –40°C to 150°C temperature range.
