ADI's High-Speed Analog-to-Digital Converters Power New Generation of Advanced Instrumentation and Defense Applications

Tuesday, May 15, 2018

Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) recently announced the AD9689, a 14-bit 2.6 GSPS dual-channel analog-to-digital converter with excellent speed and linearity, supporting IF/RF sampling. The AD9689 analog-to-digital converter consumes 1.55 W per channel, which is only half of the same solution on the market, further improving the support for many target design scenarios.

Both are lower power, pin-compatible upgrades to existing devices. All three analog-to-digital converters include a JESD204B interface that can be interconnected efficiently with the FPGA at the highest speed, and have the same register maps, so they can be used across multiple platforms with minimal coding effort.

For 3 GHz analog inputs, the AD9689 provides excellent full-speed, full-speed, spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) of 64 dB. The JESD204B interface of the AD9689 analog-to-digital converter supports 16 GBPS per channel, which exceeds the standard requirement of 12.5 GBPS per channel. Therefore, the system FPGA can use fewer channels while freeing resources for other functions.
