
Linear Technology, Inc. (Audio Devices, Inc., Analog Devices, Inc.) introduces the μModule® (Power Module) Step-Down Regulator LTM8073 with an input voltage range of up to 60V (65V absolute maximum) . In noisy environments, such as communications infrastructure, factory automation, industrial robotics, and avionics systems, the device can safely operate from unregulated or fluctuating 24V to 48V input supplies. The Silent Switcher® architecture minimizes EMC/EMI emissions, enabling the LTM8073 to meet CISPR 22 Class B requirements for signal processing applications including imaging and RF systems.
A resistor can be used to regulate the output voltage from 0.8V to 15V. This wide output voltage range provides the versatility to generate common system bus voltages of 3.3V, 5V, 12V and 15V with a single product. The efficiency is 90% at 24VIN to 5VOUT/3A. The LTM8073 provides 3A output current without the need for a heat sink or air flow at ambient temperatures up to 85°C. The device provides SHARE pins for current sharing, so it can be operated in parallel to provide more current.
The LTM8073 is available in a 6.25mm x 9mm x 3.32mm BGA package with a built-in switching regulator controller, several power switches, inductors and other supporting components. Designed with only large input and output capacitors and several small resistors. The switching frequency can be adjusted with a single external resistor or can be synchronized to an external clock from 200kHz to 3MHz. The LTM8073 has four modes of operation: Burst Mode®, pulse skip mode, pulse skip mode with spread spectrum, and external sync mode.
