
Allegro MicroSystems, LLC introduced the first fully integrated high-sensitivity current sensor product for less than 5A applications using a giant magnetoresistive technology design with ultra-high sensitivity.
Allegro MicroSystems, LLC announced the first fully integrated current sensor IC based on giant magnetoresistive (GMR) technology, the ACS70331, with ultra-high sensitivity for applications with currents less than 5A. Allegro's ACS70331 current sensor IC uses giant magnetoresistive technology and measures 25 times the sensitivity of traditional Hall-effect sensor ICs by measuring the magnetic field generated by a low resistance, integrated primary conductor current. The new device is designed to sense a very small current of 1mA resolution in a very low series resistance package of 1mΩ. The ACS70331's QFN package has the industry's best 3mm x 3mm footprint footprint. Compared to other competing products using shunt and op amp solutions, the ACS70331 has a smaller sensor footprint and lower impedance. The main target markets for new products include: handheld and laptop adapter chargers, radio and interphones, IoT load detection, small surveillance equipment, and other motor control applications.
The analog output of the ACS70331 provides a low-noise, high-speed signal that is proportional to the current flowing through the primary conductor. The device has a full-scale bandwidth of 1MHz and a typical response time of 535ns. The ACS70331 offers four factory programmed sensitivity and offset levels to optimize performance over the required current measurement range. The giant magnetoresistive element is differentially configured for the integrated current conductors, and has a significant ability to suppress stray magnetic fields, and can work stably even in a high magnetic noise environment.
The ACS70331 is available in a flat space-saving surface mount QFN package.
