The new product is a DC / DC power management IC with four high-side gate drivers
Allegro MicroSystems, LLC announced the ARG82800, a new power management IC that integrates a buck or buck / boost pre-regulator, four LDOs and four floating gate drivers. Preregulators use buck or buck / boost topologies to efficiently convert automotive battery voltages into tightly controlled intermediate voltages with control, diagnostics and protection features. Allegro's ARG82800 devices are targeted at the automotive market with end-use applications including EPS, Transmission Control Unit (TCU) and Advanced Braking System (ABS).

The ARG82800's preregulator output provides a 3.3V or 5.0V optional 350mA linear regulator, a 5V / 100mA linear regulator and two 120mA protected linear regulators for tracking VUC outputs. Designed to power microprocessors, sensors, and CAN transceivers, the ARG82800 is ideal for a variety of applications under the engine hood.
The ARG82800 device's stand-alone floating gate drivers enable N-channel MOSFETs through the SPI. These MOSFETs can be configured as phase or battery isolation devices in high-current motor applications. The integrated charge pump allows the driver output to be driven in high-phase The voltage slew rate keeps the power MOSFETs on. Enabling the ARG82800 inputs includes two options: logic level (ENB) and high-voltage key switch enable (ENBAT). It also provides the flexibility to disable one of the outputs through the Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI).
The device's diagnostic outputs include Power-on Reset Output (NPOR) and Fault Flag Output (FFn) to alert the microprocessor of a fault that the microprocessor can read through the SPI for fault conditions. Dual bandgaps (one for regulation and one for fault detection), built-in self-test (BIST), and extensive internal diagnostic capabilities extend the coverage of Functional Safety (FuSa) in critical automotive applications.
The ARG82800 is available in a flat (up to 1.2mm) height, 38-pin eTSSOP package (suffix "LV") with an exposed power pad for improved thermal performance.
