Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) Announces Broadband, High Linearity, True Zero IF (ZIF) Demodulator LTC5594
300MHz to 9GHz High Linearity I/Q Demodulator Supports 1GHz Bandwidth and Up to 60dB Image Rejection Performance
Analog Devices, Inc. The LTC5594 uses an on-chip serial port to correct I and Q phase and amplitude imbalances, allowing tuning to achieve better than 60dB image rejection. This feature greatly simplifies calibration while significantly improving receiver performance and reducing the FPGA resources required to remove the residual image. The RF input has an integrated broadband balun transformer that provides single-ended operation and a 50Ω match range from 500MHz to 9GHz. By changing the value of an external matching component, the same input can be matched in the lower frequency range from 300MHz to 500MHz. The high level of integration of the LTC5594 requires minimal external components and results in a compact solution size.
By using an on-chip serial port, all calibrations can be easily set. Also, this serial port provides zeroing of the output DC offset voltage to allow DC coupling to the ADC for true ZIF operation. Once calibrated at room temperature, these performance specifications are very stable at low or high temperatures (up to the limits of the rated housing operating temperature range of –40°C to 105°C).
The LTC5594 is available in a 32-pin, 5mm x 5mm plastic QFN package. The demodulator is powered from a single 5V supply and sinks 470mA of nominal current. You can choose to disable the baseband amplifier so that the demodulator can run at 250mA. An enable pin allows the external controller to turn off the device. When disabled, the device typically draws 20μA of supply current.
