Diodes Introduces High Efficiency and High Accuracy Linear LED Controllers

The AL58xx series offers a bill of materials (BOM) low-cost solution for various product applications in the commercial and industrial fields, including billboards, instrument lighting, home interior lighting, architectural detail lighting, and general smart lighting.

With an input range of 4.5V to 60V, these devices require no inductance to maintain good EMI performance and make system integration easier. In addition, external power transistors minimize internal power consumption compared to other designs. The AL58xx series can supply up to 15mA to external MOSFETs or bipolar transistors to drive LED strips. In addition, the AL5815 and AL5816 devices support PWM dimming, while the AL5814 and AL5817 devices support both analog and PWM dimming.

Protection features include over-temperature protection and input undervoltage lockout. The AL5814 and AL5817 devices also use the VFAULT pin to provide "LED open loop" protection and LED thermal back-flow protection.

The AL58xx family of linear controllers provides good EMI performance, while the wide operating temperature range (-40°C to +105°C) makes them suitable for harsh environments.
