Diodes Corporation today introduced the AL1788, a worldwide leader and supplier of high-quality, application-specific standard products to a broad range of independent, logic, analog and mixed-signal semiconductor markets. This high-performance offline constant voltage combined with a PFC controller combines high power factor correction (PFC) with low total harmonic distortion (THD) with low standby power, making it ideal for commercial applications and networking lighting needs.
The AL1788 is based on a platform that supports both flyback and buck topologies and is designed for primary-side regulation (PSR) without optical coupling feedback from the secondary side. It offers excellent performance, for example, up to 91% efficiency, excellent line and load regulation of 2% for complete line and load regulation, and low standby power of less than 0.2 watts.
With> 0.9 PFC and lower standby power than competitive products, the AL1788 uses an external MOSFET operation to provide a constant voltage for the LED load. High power factor is achieved through constant timing operation, and its quasi-resonant mode valley switching method drastically reduces switching losses and provides excellent EMI performance.
Through the use of PSR, secondary side of the reduced complexity, it can provide for the installation of solid-state lighting smaller overall appearance. The feedback from the auxiliary winding coupled to the secondary winding will regulate the output voltage when operating in constant voltage mode.
The AL1788 maintains remarkable PFC and THD performance over the wide input range of 50% to 100% load. The AL1788 features a low start-up current of only 3μA and 500μA operating current (typ), in combination with Burst Mode operation. The AL1788 assists users in designing with low standby power system requirements.
This product has a complete built-in protection including output open-circuit and output short-circuit protection as well as over-current, over-voltage and over-temperature protection. Also integrated undervoltage lockout.
The AL1788 is currently available in a controller-only version and is available in a SOT26 (SC74R) package. The MOSFET regulator options are available in SO-7 package and are expected to be available in 2018. Both versions are lead-free, halogen and antimony, and fully comply with RoHS standards.
