Diodes' USB 3.1 Gen 1/Gen 2 Type-CTM controller integrates advanced features to supply a new generation of devices.

Diodes Inc. (Nasdaq:DIOD) is a global manufacturer and supplier of industry-leading, high-quality application-specific standard products that cover a wide range of markets including independent, logic, analog, and mixed-signal semiconductor markets. The company today announced the launch of the PI5USB30213A USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5Gbps) and PI5USB31213A USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10Gbps) USB Type-CTM controllers with configuration channel (CC) logic and 5V VCONN sources.

By integrating the logic required for configuration control, both devices can operate as DFPs or sources; UFPs, drains, or dual-purpose ports (DRPs) can be used as Source and drain data and power supplies operate.

The CC1 and CC2 pins are Type-C connector functions that allow the host, hub, and peripheral device to determine if the device is present, the direction of the connector, and whether or how the device is powered. These new controllers provide support for CC logic functions that enable many consumers who are currently keen to experience the ability to use a single cable to share power and data between devices, regardless of cable orientation.

Jeff Ravencraft, president and chief operating officer of USB-IF, stated: "The success of USB Type-C is due to manufacturers like Diodes that continue to push the ecosystem. Engineers and manufacturers can benefit from new innovative products."
