With Hall sensor technology, the AS5172A/B can measure the magnetic flux density in a sensor array that is distributed across the circumference and compensate for the effects of eliminating external stray magnetic fields, providing a robust 14-bit (0.022° accuracy) sensor array and simulation. The front-centered, robust structure compensates for external stray magnetic fields. The AS5172A/B can also be programmed to support a full range of motion angles down to 0-10° to provide the best resolution for the application.
The AS5172A/B operates over a wide 4V to 16.5V range and supports overvoltage protection up to +20V. In addition, the supply pins can still be protected in reverse polarity up to -18V. The AS5172A/B can also be easily programmed via the single-wire UART connection to the PSI5 interface using the VDD pin on the device, reducing the number of pins on the application programming connector.
The AS5172 is available in two packages, TSSOP14 (AS5172B) and SIP (AS5172A). The SIP package (system package) integrates AS5172 sensor wafers and decoupling capacitors to improve ESD and EMC performance, eliminating the need for PCBs and helping reduce overall system cost. The AS5172A is capable of operating from -40°C to 125°C, while the AS5172B operates from -40°C to 150°C.
