Infineon Introduces Fifth Generation Independent Quasi-Resonant Flyback Controller and Integrated Power IC CoolSET Product Family

Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) introduces the fifth generation of independent quasi-resonant flyback controllers and integrated power IC CoolSETTM product line. This new product line ensures increased device efficiency, faster device startup speed and overall device performance under different load conditions. The new IC is designed for AC/DC Switch Mode Power Supplies (SMPS) for a variety of applications, such as auxiliary power supplies for appliances, servers and industrial SMPS.

The latest 700 V and 800 V CoolMOS P7 product families are integrated into a single package with the fifth generation controller. The newly designed high voltage MOSFET combined with the cascade configuration of the internal current regulator enables fast start-up. Light load performance is optimized with active burst mode (ABM) and optional inlet/outlet thresholds.

The device design uses a new algorithm that minimizes switching frequency variations between different line conditions while simplifying EMI filter design. Device protection features include input overvoltage protection, Brown In/Out, pin-to-ground short, and overtemperature protection for the hysteresis unit. All protection functions are implemented by an automatic restart to minimize operational outages.
