Renesas subsidiary Intersil introduces five synchronous buck regulators

Intersil, a leading global semiconductor solutions provider, Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE: 6723) announced today that it has introduced five synchronous buck regulators - ISL85014, ISL85012, ISL85009, ISL85005A and ISL85005. The rail voltage is reduced to a load point input voltage of 0.6V for MCU, FPGA, memory and peripheral I/O. The five latest buck regulators in the ISL850xx family provide 14A, 12A, 9A, and 5A continuous output currents to support industrial computers and programmable logic controllers as well as telecom, test and measurement, server and storage networking equipment.

The ISL850xx synchronous buck regulator supports a 3.8V - 18V input voltage and a wide output current range, giving designers a complete portfolio of high efficiency and reliability. These pin-compatible regulators integrate high-side and low-side MOSFETs with very low on-resistance (RDSon) to reduce external component count and power dissipation, extending product life. These two FETs also provide current limiting and reverse current limiting to improve reliability and provide overcurrent protection for the system. The high-efficiency ISL850xx helps reduce die temperature and eliminates the need for a cooling fan or heat sink for system operation. Its internal compensation circuitry eliminates additional external components, reducing design complexity and bill of materials.

The ISL85014 is available in one of the industry's smallest 14A package sizes (3.5mm x 3.5mm), and the compact size helps leave valuable board space. The ISL85009 is one of the industry's most power-efficient 9A synchronous buck regulators, offering a high-side FET with a 17mΩ on-resistance and a low-side FET with an on-resistance of 8.5mΩ to significantly reduce die temperature for a cooling system Application requirements. The pin-compatible ISL85014, ISL85012, and ISL85009 are suitable for high load current applications, while the 5A ISL85005A and ISL85005 buck switching regulators are pin compatible with the 3A ISL85003A and ISL85003 devices previously released.
