Linear's Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) announced the LTC2500-32, an ultra-precise 32-bit successive approximation register (SAR) analog-to-digital converter (ADC). The LTC2500-32 is a new and viable method for precision measurement applications that combines the high accuracy and speed of Linear Technology's proprietary SAR ADC architecture with flexible, integrated digital filters to optimize system signal bandwidth And relax the analog anti-aliasing filter requirements.
The LTC2500-32 provides two outputs simultaneously: (1) a digitally filtered 32-bit low noise output that achieves a dynamic range of up to 148dB; and (2) a 32-bit 1Msps delay-free output that is out of range The detection bit consists of a 24-bit code representing the input voltage difference and a 7-bit code representing the common-mode input voltage. The no-delay output is inherently perfectly matched to the digitally filtered output, eliminating common mismatch and drift problems in applications that require the use of an additional faster ADC in parallel with a precision ADC to monitor signal integrity. The wide input common-mode range and high CMRR simplifies the analog signal chain by enabling the LTC2500-32 to connect to signals with varying common-mode voltages. Each of the two outputs can highly accurately represent the voltage difference applied between the two input terminals.
The LTC2500-32 has an excellent low noise density, providing a dynamic range of 148dB at 61sps and a dynamic range of 104dB at 1Msps. In addition to low noise, the LTC2500-32 offers an unmatched 0.5ppm typical INL and 2ppm guaranteed maximum INL over a wide temperature range, with negligible gain and offset voltage drift. These features combine to achieve state-of-the-art, high-accuracy measurements in noisy environments, such as in industrial automation applications. The integrated configurable digital filter provides seven filter types and 13 different down-sampling factors, giving users the flexibility to trade off bandwidth, filter response and noise performance for each application.
The LTC2500-32 is part of an ultra-high-precision SAR ADC family that includes the 32-bit LTC2508-32 and 24-bit LTC2512-24. The LTC2508-32 provides digital filters optimized for data acquisition applications, while the LTC2512-24 provides A digital filter optimized for signal processing applications that require flat passbands. The LTC2512-24 and LTC2508-32 provide a 14-bit, non-delayed output to monitor signal integrity and four down-conversion sampling factors to facilitate trade-offs between bandwidth and dynamic range. The LTC2500-32 offers a wider variety of filter types and down-sampling factors.
