Linear Technology Introduces H-Side Edition of the Single-Phase Flyback Regulator LT8303

Linear introduces the H-stage version of the LT8303, a monolithic flyback regulator that guarantees operation with junction temperatures up to 150°C. By sampling the isolated output voltage directly from the main-side flyback waveform, the device can be regulated without an optocoupler or a third winding. Operating over an input voltage range of 5.5V to 100V, the LT8303 integrates a 0.45A/150V DMOS power switch to deliver up to 5W of output power, making it ideal for a wide range of telecom, datacom, automotive, industrial, medical, and military applications.

The output voltage can be set using only one external resistor and transformer turns ratio. Several off-the-shelf transformers are listed in the product brochure for a wide range of applications. The LT8303 operates in boundary mode, a variable frequency current mode control switching scheme that typically produces ±1% output voltage stability over the entire load and voltage range. The boundary mode allows the use of smaller transformers than the equivalent continuous conduction mode design. The device's high level of integration and operation in low ripple Burst Mode® provides an easy-to-use, low-profile and high-efficiency application solution for isolated power supplies.

Other features include output overload and short-circuit protection, 70μA no-load operating quiescent current, internal loop compensation, and accurate enable and hysteresis undervoltage lockout.

The LT8303H operates over the –40°C to 150°C junction temperature range and is available in a small SOT-23 package.
