Review:TI's DC / DC Step-Down Regulators Simplify EMI Compliance and Reliability Requirements for Challenging Industrial and Automotive Applications

Texas Instruments has introduced two wide VIN synchronous DC / DC step-down regulators with excellent EMI and thermal performance. The highly integrated 5-A and 6-A LM73605 / 6 and 2.5-A and 3.5-A LM76002 / 3 buck converters feature optimized pinout and excellent thermal conductivity to simplify compliance with challenging industrial and EMI compliance and reliability requirements for automotive applications.
3.5V to 36V The LM73205 / 6 and 3.5V to 60V LM76002 / 3 buck regulators meet and exceed the demanding CISPR 25 Class 5 automotive electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements. The programmable output switching frequency of these regulators can be set above the AM band, eliminating the AM band interference, reducing the size and cost of the output filter; it can also be set to optimize efficiency below the AM band. The tiny QFN package features unique wettable sides that provide ultra-low thermal conductivity of 7.1ºC / W (ΨJB) for added reliability and post-weld optical inspection to simplify manufacturing. Optimized package placement provides board design flexibility and helps improve heat dissipation, minimizing radiated emissions and conducted emissions. Key Features and Benefits of the LM73605 / 6 and LM76002 / 3:
The new DC / DC converters provide up to 60V of operating input voltage for nominal 12V, 24V or 48V systems such as remote radios, ultrasonic scanners, motor drives, inverters and servo-control units.
The new regulator offers up to 92% full load efficiency at 12VIN, 5VOUT and 500KHz switching frequencies. Very low 15μA standby quiescent current improves light-load efficiency.
The automotive LM76002-Q1, LM76003-Q1, LM73605-Q1 and LM73606-Q1s support compact automotive applications such as an infotainment host and a front / surround camera for autonomous driving.
