Maxim Announces New Secure Microcontrollers Supporting Advanced Encryption, Key Storage and Tamper Detection with 50% Package Size Reduction

Saturday, August 11, 2018

The MAX32558 DeepCover IC supports faster, easier designs that enable reliable security for applications such as industrial, consumer, computing, and IoT

Maxim announced the MAX32558 Secure Microcontroller to help secure, sensitive industrial, consumer, computing and Internet of Things (IoT) device manufacturers quickly and efficiently establish secure cryptographic operations, key storage and tamper resistance. As a new member of the MaximDeepCoverÒ family of secure microcontrollers, the MAX32558 provides designers with reliable and secure features while saving up to 50% of printed circuit board (PCB) space compared to their nearest competitors.

As electronic products become smaller and more connected to the network, the threat of sensitive information and user privacy is increasing, making manufacturers first consider security issues when designing devices. Although designers need to guard against device-level vulnerabilities, they always need to trade off between smaller board space and higher security, while accounting for design complexity and time-to-market goals.

The latest MAX32558 DeepCover Arm® Cortex®-M3 Flash Secure Microcontroller successfully overcomes these challenges by providing robust security, simplifying design integration and speeding time to market in a small form factor package. The device integrates multiple security features in a small package, including key storage, secure boot, active tamper detection, and a secure crypto engine. The device also supports multiple communication channels such as USB, Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI), Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter (UART) and I2C, making it ideal for a wide range of applications. Maxim's long-standing reputation and experience in payment terminal certification, along with comprehensive support and technology, helps customers streamline the certification process by reducing the cycle to six months (rather than the standard 12 to 18 months).
