MAX14878 / 79/80 Dramatically Improve System Uptime with ± 54V Fault Protection and Industry-Leading ± 15kV ESD Protection
Maxim announces the MAX14878, MAX14879, and MAX148802.75kV and 5kV family of isolated controller area network (CAN) transceivers to help designers improve industrial communication reliability and system uptime.
Now, CAN bus has been widely used in industrial fields. Due to the requirement of integrated, isolated and reliable interfaces to withstand the effects of noisy environments, workers face many challenges. In addition, there is also a risk of transceiver failure / short-circuit communication failure, electrostatic discharge (ESD) effects on system reliability, and higher ground potential variations in industrial environments.
The series of high-speed transceivers integrate up to 5kV electrical isolation with fault protection and ESD protection of ± 15kV Human Body Model (HBM), effectively improving system uptime in harsh and noisy environments. The device operates at the highest CAN bus communication data rates up to 1 Mbps with receiver inputs having ± 54V fail-safe. The transceivers are available in industry-standard pinout and are housed in a wide 16-lead SOIC package, 8mm creepage and clearance, and operate over the -40 ° C to + 125 ° C temperature range.
