Maxim announced the availability of the MAX14883E control area network (CAN) transceiver to quickly resolve installation errors in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) and building automation systems.
The CAN bus has been widely used in the industrial field. In a harsh industrial environment, the operator can easily reverse CANH (CAN bus high level) and CANL (CAN bus low level) when installing the system. The result is that users spend a lot of time and money to find and resolve installation errors, increase the number of round trips to the site, and assume the risk of communication failures.
The MAX14883E is a high-speed, polarity-selectable CAN transceiver designed for industrial networking applications to quickly resolve installation errors and ensure reliable communications. The device provides a polarity selection input (POL) that exchanges CANH and CANL I/O and corrects the reversed field cable through software. In addition, the MAX14883E offers ±60V fault protection, up to ±22kV ESD protection (HBM), CANH and CANL bus can withstand up to ± 25V common-mode input range, thus ensuring the reliability of communications. The transceiver supports the highest CAN bus communication speeds (small network speeds up to 1 Mbps), 5V single-supply (VCC) supply, and logic power input (VL) ensures that the device is compatible with 1.8V to 5V logic levels. The MAX14883E is available in a narrow 8-lead SOIC package and has an operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
