Intelligent power module working:2018 the Industry's Smallest Power Module

Saturday, April 28, 2018

The Main Advantage:

A. Small solution size: 2.25 times smaller than competing solutions; Available in a compact 10-pin 2.6mm x 3.0mm x 1.5mm uSLIC package

B. High efficiency: up to 90% peak efficiency in the smallest package (program size less than 15mm2); excellent thermal performance

C. Simplified design: Built-in compensation, fully synchronous buck regulators; integrated inductors, simple design, faster time-to-market

4-42V Wide Input DC-DC Power Supply Module Provides Efficient, Simple Design with 2.25 Times Reduction in Size

Maxim announced the system-level micro-IC ("uSLIC") family of modules to help designers of space-constrained systems dramatically reduce their footprint and increase efficiency. The MAXM17532 and MAXM15462 ultra-small (2.6mm x 3.0mm x 1.5mm), integrated DC-DC power modules are part of Maxim's Himalayan power solution patent portfolio for the industrial, healthcare, communications and consumer markets. With these modules, customers can take full advantage of all the advantages of the industry's switching regulators, as well as the advantages of a small linear regulator (LDO) and easy design.

With the rapid development of detection, interconnection, and cloud computing, miniaturization will become the next frontier technology to promote emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and machine learning. This new generation of intelligence requires more power in a continuously shrinking space, without affecting the thermal budget, making the traditional solution overwhelmed and becoming more complex. Assembling small-size accessories in harsh mechanical, electrical, and thermal environments means that designers need to face multiple challenges such as vibration and shock resistance, EMI compatibility, higher energy efficiency, high temperature operation, and small size.

Maxim's uSLICTM power module in an ultra-small package reduces the size of the power solution by 2.25 times, thanks to a synchronous, wide input range Himalayan buck technology with a built-in FET, compensation, integrated inductor, and other features for complete design. These combinations of components enable designers to use modules in tightly confined, small spaces while meeting mechanical and EMI standards. In addition, engineers no longer have to deal with the heat dissipation problems of large-power, low-efficiency regulators in traditional solutions, which greatly simplifies the design. With our solution, engineers can install off-the-shelf power modules in almost the same space as a miniature LDO. In such a small size, designers can achieve high efficiency, low noise, and higher stability. The uSLIC DC-DC buck regulator module operates from a wide input range of 4V up to 42V and supports a wide range of nominal input voltages of 5V, 12V, 24V and 36V to provide a reliable headroom for next-generation applications. . The power module operates over the -40°C to +125°C temperature range.
