Melexis, the global leader in microelectronics technology, announces the second generation of a motor position sensor (resolver) based on its patented Triaxis Hall magnetic sensing technology.
The next generation MLX90380 single-chip solution can be used to measure absolute motor angles for all brushless motors including Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) and Brushless DC Motor (BLDC). The electrification of the car has given rise to the continuing growth of related applications, for which the MLX90380 offers the ideal solution.
The sensor's 2us input signal sample rate and 8us output signal refresh rate make it ideal for high speed rotary motor applications such as automotive electric power steering (EPS) and superchargers; the MLX90380 offers sine and cosine proportional to VDD Analog signal output, support 10mT ~ 70mT magnetic field strength of the work environment, and XYZ three directions of the magnetic field can be configured.
MLX90380 is unique in that it can be installed at the end of the shaft or shaft side. By simply selecting the right product code, and with the ring magnet on the rotor shaft and the MLX90380 mounted on the side, designers can now measure rotor speed and position anywhere on the shaft.
Peter Vandersteegen, product manager for Melexis, commented on the new product MLX90380: "This Triaxis®-based second-generation resolver (resolver) shows Melexis a significant step forward - not least in terms of performance And installation flexibility, this compact device offers many options for designers to offer high-performance rotational angle measurement solutions due to the small space challenges designers face in modern applications, particularly in the automotive arena. "
The MLX90380 operates from -40 ° C to + 150 ° C and is ideally suited for demanding applications such as industrial and automotive applications. The standard version is available in a small SOIC-8 package, while the full redundancy version is available in a SOIC-16 package. For PCB-free applications such as directly mounted in a motor, it is available in a DMP-4 package.
ISO26262 documentation can be used to support safety-critical automotive applications.
The MLX90380 can be used with Melexis' small driver IC, the MLX81310 or MLX81315, to actuate and position the smart valve to effectively cool the battery or the engine. It can also be used with Melexis BLDC Motor Control IC MLX81205-06-07-08 to track the rotor position of an intelligent pump to provide effective dynamic control of the pump at the right torque.
