Micronas latest controllers with NewTec Production Ready firmware for low cost, compact, high-efficiency motor control

Saturday, April 14, 2018

Highly flexible peripherals and firmware for direct motor control (stepper/brushless/brushed) Co-marketed by TDK-Micronas and NewTec

TDK Corporation announced that TDK-Micronas, known for its fully integrated embedded motor control products, and NewTec, a company focused on safety-related electronic systems, have begun to jointly market the new servo drive motor controller HVC4223F. HVC4223F supports direct control of stepper motors and brushless motors without external drive components. NewTec contributed production-ready, highly-flexible and parameter-tunable firmware with proven communication, monitoring, power control (ASIL A-ready) and configuration tools.

The new HVC4223F is part of the Micronas High Voltage Controller (HVC) family for smart actuators. HVC products include ARM-standard microcontroller cores with extensive additional features to support compact, low-cost automotive application system designs. Powered by a 32-KB flash 32-bit CPU core (ARM, Cortex-M3), the HVC4223F includes timers, counters, interrupt controllers, multi-channel ADCs, SPI, and enhanced PMW with diagnostic capabilities, and is an ISO26262-compliant application implementation.

Advanced LIN UARTs with LIN 2.x transceivers and voltage regulators directly connected to the automotive board (5.4 V - 18 V) enable the integration process. A variety of power management modes help reduce power consumption. Various integrated digital and analog circuit elements, such as comparators with virtual start reference, current scaling, and embedded programmable gain amplifiers, allow the user to minimize the number of external components.

Due to its high processing power, the HVA4223F supports complex motor control algorithms such as space vector modulation (SVM) for permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM), six-step communication with sensor feedback or sensorless control, and various steps Into the configuration. “Our advances in software development have provided users with the highest flexibility in code writing, volume production, and in-system firmware upgrades,” said Thomas Mack, senior security consultant and product manager at NewTec. “At the same time, we are not in security. We are particularly proud of this compromise. Our software complies with the Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) Level A. Therefore, we can provide flexibility, economy, and future verification at one time."

“This strategic cooperation in the field of embedded motor control allows us to take full advantage of the flexibility of the HVC4223F in smart execution applications. Our customers can now develop application software based on more efficient production-ready firmware, optimizing motor and control software design. This greatly shortens time-to-market, and now can also be used flexibly for a variety of applications and motors, because one of the product's target requirements is the firmware's support for HVC4223F ISO26262 related features, and our customers can use this ready-made combination of advantages to design Their ASIL compliant application, for TDK-Micronas, opens up new markets for new applications, in particular customers who plan to use brushless motors instead of brush motors.Supported by the concept of HVC products, the number of HVC4223F applications It will be greatly expanded,” explains Ruediger Laschewski, Product Manager of Embedded Motor Controller at TDK-Micronas.
