NXP Introduces the Smallest 8-Bit S08 Microcontroller for the General Market

NXP's new 3 x 3 x 0.9 mm packaged S08 MCU further extends its S08 MCU product family to meet the market's growing demand for miniature 8-bit MCUs

NXP Semiconductors announced the launch of its smallest 8-bit S08 microcontroller (MCU), the MC9S08PA4AVDC microcontroller. This product is packaged in a new package, measuring just 3 x 3 x 0.9 mm, which can help overcome the technical challenges of shrinking PCB space for future technologies without increasing BOM costs. The MC9S08PA4AVDC can be used in a variety of size-constrained applications that require the use of micro MCUs, such as industrial control, BLDC motor control, and Internet of Things (IoT) control.

The advent of the MC9S08PA4AVDC MCU has enriched NXP's low-cost, high-performance HCS08 Series 8-bit microcontroller lineup. The new MCU features an enhanced HCS08 central processor and offers a variety of peripherals, memory capacities, and product types. With an 8-bit S08 core, the MC9S08PA4AVDC MCU operates at bus frequencies up to 20 MHz over the full temperature range (2.7V to 5.5V operating voltage range), providing increased ruggedness and flexibility in demanding industrial and user interface environments. And reliability. In addition, the MCU integrates up to 4KB of flash memory, 128 bytes of EEPROM, and 512 bytes of RAM all in a single chip.

NXP's S08 microcontrollers (including the latest MC9S08PA4AVDC) can use CodeWarrior as an independent development tool (IDE). The MC9S08PT60 tower system (TWR) is a low-cost, stand-alone demo board designed to demonstrate the capabilities of the MC9S08P family. It is pre-programmed with a demonstration program that enables rapid and cost-effective product evaluation and application development.
