ON Semiconductor Introduces the Smallest 65 W USB-PD Adapter Solution Using Industry-Standard Super Junction FETs
Advanced controllers and drivers provide energy-efficient USB-PD power adapters and battery charger solutions.

By including high-voltage startup, a NCP1568-based solution requires only a few external components, reducing standby power consumption. In addition, the high frequency of operation allows the size of passive components to be reduced, significantly increasing power density.

The NCP1568 is available in a small TSSOP-16 package with multiple protection features. The mute jump function eliminates audible noise during operation, which is a basic requirement for indoor power adapter applications.

This device offers a very robust solution with high dv/dt immunity (up to 50 V/ns) and negative transient immunity. It is packaged in SOIC-8 or DFN-10, which offers improved creepage and an exposed pad. There is also an AEC-Q100 certified version in an SO-8 package for demanding automotive applications.

Ryan Zahn, director of marketing and applications at AC Semiconductor's AC-DC business unit, said: "This solution represents a significant advancement in the design of modern power adapters and battery chargers. The NCP1568 ACF controller offers advanced functionality and flexible operation to provide superior energy efficiency. SJ FETs are used at the same time, and only a few external components are needed to achieve a high-density USB PD design. The NCP51530 driver is a high-speed, high-performance, rugged power supply solution that also includes AEC Q-100 certification options for automotive applications."

ON Semiconductor supplies samples of NCP1568 and NCP51530, and will be mass-produced in the second quarter of 2018.
