Mitsubishi Electric Corporation will begin offering "400Gbps*1 small integrated EML*2 TOSA*3" new product samples on April 1. This product is used in the signal transmission module of communication speed 400Gbps high-capacity high-speed optical fiber communication, and it is the pioneer ※5 product that meets the IEEE 400GBASE-LR8 standard*4 with two TOSA. The new products will accelerate the high-speed and large-capacity communication speeds of optical fiber communication equipment stations such as data centers.
In addition, this product will be exhibited at the "Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibition 2018" (March 13th to 15th, 2018, in: San Diego, USA).
* 1 Gigabit per second (Gbps): Communication rate unit capable of transmitting Gigabit digital code per second
※2 Electro-absorption Modulated Laser diode:Electro-absorption modulation semiconductor laser
※3 Transmitter Optical Sub Assembly: Optical Transmitting Sub Module (Component)
*4 Ethernet standard with communication speed of 400Gbps, transmission distance of 10km, and 8 wavelengths specified by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
※5 The company's survey data is as of March 7, 2018
New product features
Realize 400Gbps high-capacity high-speed communication through 8 wavelength multiplexing, PAM4 modulation, etc.
・Combines short-wavelength TOSA and long-wavelength TOSA (4 wavelengths each) to achieve multiplexed transmission of 8 wavelengths
・Modulation method adopts PAM4 method*6 and realizes 400Gbps with 8 wavelengths (average 1 wavelength: 50Gbps)
・Equipped with a high extinction ratio*7 for long-distance transmission, high-light EML die, transmission distance up to 10km
・The industry’s pioneering products that meet the IEEE 400GBASE-LR8 standard with two TOSAs
・CFP8*8, which is also suitable for one of the 400Gbps small-sized fiber transceivers
※6 Short for 4-level pulse-amplitude modulation. 4-level pulse amplitude modulation. Instead of a binary string consisting of 0s and 1s, it communicates as a 4-level pulse signal.
*7 The ratio of the intensity of the switch for transmitting the optical signal. The higher the general strength, the higher the signal quality, which is suitable for long-distance transmission.
※8 C (100 in Roman numerals) From-factor Pluggable
