Power FPGA, GPU, ASIC, and system power.
Analog Devices Inc. (ADI) announced the LTM4646, Power by Linear ™, a dual 10A or single 20A output step-down μModule® point-of-load regulator with 5V or 12V input rails. The LTM4646 includes inductors, MOSFETs, DC / DC controllers, and support components in an 11.25mm x 15mm x 5.01mm BGA package. The LTM4646 has reduced the solution size by more than 25% over the previous two single-channel 10A output module solutions. With its dual voltage regulator design, small package size, and precise voltage regulation, the LTM4646 meets the PCB area constraints of high-density system boards and can power low-voltage and high-current devices such as FPGAs, ASICs, microprocessors, and GPUs . Applications for the device include PCIe boards, communications infrastructures, cloud-based systems, and medical, industrial, and test and measurement equipment.
Ensure that the total output voltage DC accuracy is ± 1.5% over the entire voltage, load, and temperature range (-40 ° C to 125 ° C). In addition, the onboard remote sense amplifier on both outputs also compensates for the voltage drop caused by the high load current due to the PC board trace impedance. The LTM4646 features optional internal or external feedback loop compensation, enabling users to optimize loop stability and transient performance while minimizing the number of output capacitors.
The peak efficiency is 86% at 12VIN to 1.0VOUT transitions. With a 200LFM airflow, the LTM4646 continues to provide a full 20A of current up to 85 ° C ambient temperature. The current mode architecture allows for multiphase parallel operation to increase output current with very superior current sharing capability.
When used alone, the LTM4646 operates over a 4.5V to 20V input range. When 5V external bias is available, the device can rely on 2.375V power supply. The output voltage can be adjusted from 0.6V to 5.5V, allowing the device not only to generate low voltages for digital devices, but also to generate the 2.5V, 3.3V and 5V typically required for system bus voltages. The switching frequency can be set in a 250kHz to 1.3MHz range using a single resistor and can be synchronized to an external clock in the frequency range of 300kHz to 1MHz for noise-sensitive applications. In addition, the device also has over-voltage and over-current protection.
The LTM4646 operates over the temperature range of -40 ° C to 125 ° C.
