
ROHM, a world-renowned semiconductor manufacturer, has developed a pulse sensor "BH1790GLC" for measuring pulse signals for wearable devices such as sports bracelets and smart watches.
"BH1790GLC" uses ROHM's accumulated experience in optical sensor technology and unique analog circuit technology to improve sensor sensitivity. Thus, even if the brightness of the LED is low, the pulse can be accurately sensed, achieving the industry's smallest level of low power consumption.
In addition, the "BH1790GLC" uses a pulse filter-specific optical filter structure to detect pulse signals with high precision. Therefore, not only does the wearable device have a longer battery life, but also reduces the influence of infrared rays to less than one-tenth of that of conventional products, and high-quality pulse can be obtained even in a strong infrared environment such as strenuous exercise and outdoor. Signals help drive the further development of wearable devices.
"BH1790GLC" has been selling samples (600 yen/piece: excluding tax) in October 2016, and started mass production in November 2016 with a monthly capacity of 500,000. The production base for the previous process is ROHM Apollo Co., Ltd. (Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan), and the production base for the later process is ROHM Electronics Philippines Inc. (Philippines).
