Silicon Labs Announces New Highly-Integrated PoE ICs Meeting IoT Growth Needs

The Si3406x IC integrates all the power management and control functions required for a PoE+ PD application, converting the high voltages provided by the 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet connection to a stable low-voltage output supply. By using economical off-chip components while maintaining high performance, the optimized architecture minimizes printed circuit board (PCB) area and off-chip BOM cost.

Complementing the Si3406x family, the Si3404 IC offers a cost-effective 802.3 Type 1 compliant product for low power 15W PoE PD applications. The Si3404 integrates all interface and control functions required for low-power PD applications in a very small package.

The Si3406x IC integrates a diode bridge and a transient surge suppressor that can be directly connected to an Ethernet RJ-45 connector. The regulator's switching frequency can be adjusted with a simple external resistor to avoid unwanted harmonics. The integrated synchronous driver can control the secondary side field effect transistor (FET) to improve the power conversion efficiency. Maintains the connection to the PSE switch in sleep mode with the Automatic Maintenance Power Signature (MPS) feature.
