Silicon Labs Introduces New IoT Wi-Fi Device That Halves Power Consumption

Thursday, March 22, 2018

Silicon Labs (also known as "Core Technology", NASDAQ: SLAB) has introduced a new Wi-Fi® product portfolio, designed to simplify the design of power-sensitive battery-powered Wi-Fi products, including IP security cameras, Point- of-Sale (PoS) terminals and consumer health care equipment. The new WF200 transceiver and WFM200 module support 2.4GHz 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, optimized for energy efficiency, and provide the high performance and reliable connectivity required for ever- Increasing connected devices in home and business networks.

Daniel Cooley, senior vice president and general manager of IoT products at Silicon Labs, said: “Our first low-power Wi-Fi product portfolio has been specifically designed for IoT and has reached isolated breakthroughs in the design of secure, battery-powered interconnected Devices. Progress. Undoubtedly, we have noticed a strong demand from customers for specific Wi-Fi technologies, including the limited power consumption and space budget for battery-powered devices, and the need for end users to connect to AC power."

According to Christian Kim, a senior analyst at IHS Markit, a global business information provider, “The market for Wi-Fi devices in low-power IoT endpoint applications is expected to grow from 128 million in 2016 to 584 million in 2021 each year. ”

Silicon Labs' WF200 transceivers Provides WFM200 to accelerate time-to-market and reduce battery-powered Wi-Fi products. The WFM200 is the world's smallest pre-certified system-in-package (SiP) module with integrated antenna. Cost-effective choices for high-volume applications and give developers the flexibility to meet unique system design requirements, such as the use of external antennas.
