ST introduces next-generation door area controller, monolithic integrated power management and emergency fault protection circuit

Monday, August 27, 2018

STMicroelectronics has further improved the technical level of the door area controllers and introduced a family of door area controllers with integrated power management and emergency fault protection circuits. In the past, the implementation of these two functions required the use of external components.

The new L99DZ100G/GP front door controller and L99DZ120 rear door controller save space and increase reliability and energy efficiency. The controller software is fully compatible, helping to simplify product development and reduce time to market.

Based on ST's advanced BCD8S automotive semiconductor manufacturing technology, this market-unique single-chip solution meets the requirements for power management and emergency fault protection in the door area control module, including built-in 7.5A maximum current rating. Half-bridge and upper-arm drives, as well as high-speed CAN (HS-CAN) and LIN 2.2a (SAE J 2602) interfaces, control modules and protection circuits. The L99DZ100GP adds support for ISO 11898-6 HS-CAN selective wake-up. When the CAN bus is connected, the unusable electronic control unit (ECU) is kept in the power-saving state, thereby maximizing energy saving.

Both front door controllers feature an integrated MOSFET half-bridge driver that can drive five DC motors and drive an external H-bridge. In addition, there are eight LED drivers and two lamp drivers, a mirror defrosting heater drive, an automatic anti-glare control module, a voltage regulator that integrates external circuitry such as microcontrollers and sensors, and associated timing. , watchdog, reset signal generator and protection circuit. The L99DZ120 is a rear door area controller with similar features and includes an electric window lift motor controller.

Other useful features include automatic LED duty cycle compensation to ensure stable light levels when the vehicle's power supply voltage (VS) is unstable. In addition, if an accident such as a short circuit occurs, the innovative thermal cluster management function can separately turn off the relevant fault output, so that the output that is not affected by the fault continues to work normally, bringing an extraordinary driving experience to the end user.
