ON Semiconductor's AR0144 Global Shutter Device Enables Fast, Clear, and Accurate Imaging for Static Applications such as High-Speed Barcode Scanners and Dynamic Applications such as UAVs and Augmented Reality / Virtual Reality.
ON Semiconductor, a leader in energy-efficient innovation, has introduced a new 1/4-inch 1.0Mp (1280H x 800V) CMOS digital image sensor to deliver industry-leading performance levels. This new sensor captures sharp, accurate images with no artifacts in bright and low light conditions. Its high shutter efficiency and signal-to-noise ratio fully reduce ghosting and noise and improve overall image quality.

The 3.0μm pixel AR0144 incorporates an innovative global shutter design that has been optimized to meet the toughest requirements for capturing accurate and fast images in both static and dynamic scene applications. Available in monochrome models and color models, the sensor is extremely compact with a 5.6mm x 5.6mm chip size or die format that easily integrates into space-constrained designs.
The AR0144 has a wide range of features and functions to meet the growing number of different needs in image sensor terminal applications. According to market research firm Mordor Intelligence predicts that by 2018 the global image sensor market will increase to 12.67 billion US dollars, from 2014 to 2020, the CAGR of 7.69%.
The AR0144 allows designers to compromise resolution without finding solutions that fit their needs. In static applications such as barcode scanners, the AR0144 is easy to design into a hand-held product, ensuring power-saving, time-saving and easy-to-use initial scan. In dynamic applications such as UAVs, the low power consumption of the sensor extends the charging interval and its imaging performance enables better mapping of the environment and avoids serious collisions. Finally, the AR0144 offers a cost-effective and small-footprint solution for capturing dual images for 3D mapping or depth sensing in 3D cameras and augmented reality / virtual reality designs.
The AR0144 offers a high degree of flexibility in the choice of main image / video, trigger frame / single frame and automatic triggering of operating modes. The exposure time is controlled via a 2-wire serial interface. The array frame size and blanking time configuration adjusts the resolution and frame rate (up to 60 fps at full resolution) to cover a specific ROI. The versatility of the AR0144 can be tailored to the specific needs of different applications, including fine-tuning, arrayed windowing, adjustable auto-exposure control, and automatic black-level correction, with a variety of custom configurations.
Gianluca Colli, vice president and general manager of consumer image sensor solutions at ON Semiconductor, said at the launch of the product: "With the advent of many new and diverse applications and the rapid growth in surveillance systems, vision-based sensing and control needs Is also growing.AR0144 products are very compact, with a novel global shutter and the same leading-edge performance, this enabling technology will help designers to introduce attractive new products that can operate in challenging environments. "
