Toshiba's New 3-Phase Brushless Fan Motor Driver IC Configures Speed Control (Closed Loop Control) Function

Monday, April 2, 2018

This product is suitable for small fan applications used in home appliances and industrial equipment. Mass production will start in April.

Cooling fans used in servers and other applications must have the characteristics of small accumulation, high speed, and accuracy. The speed feedback method can be used to achieve the best consistency and suppress fluctuations in the speed caused by supply voltage and load changes. As of now, this method requires the use of a microcomputer, and Toshiba's new solution integrates non-volatile memory (NVM) to enable flexible speed control without the need for an external microcomputer. It also allows easy system configuration.

In addition, the TC78B025FTG uses a 1-Hall drive system and a current-free sense resistor system to reduce the number of external components and help save board space.

The main features

• Built-in speed control (closed loop control) function
The IC's non-volatile memory (NVM) supports a range of rotational speeds from hundreds of revolutions per minute to tens of thousands of revolutions per minute.

• Save board space and reduce board size
Available in a small package (4mm × 4mm), it can be mounted on the limited board space of a small fan. The 1-Hall drive and resistance-free current sensing system (ACDS [2]) reduces the number of external components.

• Highly efficient driving
Toshiba's motor drive technology (InPAC [3]) enables efficient drive over a wide range of speeds without the burden of regulation. In addition, since the output on-resistance is as low as 0.2Ω (typical), heat dissipation during IC operation can be reduced and efficient driving can be achieved.

application
Cooling fans for servers, game consoles, etc.
