Unique new device from Microchip with unmatched flexibility, great choice for customer design
With the rise of automotive infotainment systems, automakers need to establish reliable and intelligent connections between car displays and multiple smartphones or tablets. Microchip Technology Inc. is the industry leader in providing integrated circuits (ICs) that support this type of connectivity. The five new USB 2.0 smart hub ICs introduced provide users with a variety of options. These devices have a variety of architectures that can be flexibly adapted to the automotive manufacturer's design needs and meet the consumer's easy-to-use and intuitive requirements for the system.
The five new devices support a variety of architectures so manufacturers can easily connect their specific designs to all major smartphone operating systems. These systems support the display of a graphical user interface of a mobile phone or tablet on a vehicle screen, integration with in-vehicle voice commands, and the ability to charge mobile devices and support the integration of assistive driving applications on mobile phones with automotive infotainment systems. .
Microchip's new smart hub ICs allow hubs to be cascaded to the second and third rows of seats. Data can appear on all ports at the same time and have charging capabilities. For example, if there are two USB ports, one port can connect the phone or tablet to the car host, and the other port can both recharge and upload/download data. With Microchip's new USB4914, USB4916, USB4925, and USB4927 smart hub ICs, automakers can customize their own solutions to meet their design needs. As cars become more of an entertainment environment, manufacturers can develop novel solutions—supporting consumers to navigate using one cell phone, and another to listen to music or watch videos.
Microchip's new USB4715, USB4914, USB4916, USB4925, and USB4927 USB 2.0 Smart Hub ICs feature a unique USB configuration that includes both single- and dual-bus implementations and is well-connected to infotainment systems. All devices use standard USB drivers for most automotive host systems to more quickly develop and verify systems for on-site updates. Each device also integrates a 32-bit microcontroller for advanced bridging, audio application support, and USB power (USB PD).
