
Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) announced the release of a new automotive-grade Power Metal Strip® battery shunt resistor -- WSBS8518...14. The resistor has a power density of 36W and is available in a 8518 form factor with tin plating on the connector. Vishay Dale WSBS8518...14 has resistance values as low as 50 μΩ, higher measurement accuracy than Hall effect current sensing solutions, and lower cost. Tin-plated connectors facilitate PCB assembly and improve corrosion resistance.
The devices introduced today are AEC-Q200 certified, using unique processing techniques to achieve very low resistance values of 50μΩ, 100μΩ, 125μΩ and 250μΩ. The device's low resistance allows it to measure more accurate data to determine battery charging and discharging, helping designers meet gasoline, diesel, hybrid and pure electric cars and trucks, as well as electric forklifts and other heavy loads. Battery management needs for specific customers in industrial applications.
WSBS8518...14 uses a solid metal manganese-copper alloy resistor core with low TCR (±20ppm/°C) and an all-welded structure. The resistance of the resistor is less than 5nH, the thermal EMF is less than 1μV/°C), and the operating temperature is from -65°C to +170°C. The device is RoHS and Vishay green and halogen free.
