Vishay Introduces Automotive Grade Proximity and Ambient Light Sensors

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) announced that its Optoelectronics division has introduced the VCNL4035X01, a fully integrated automotive-grade proximity and ambient light sensor for gesture recognition.

Vishay Semiconductors VCNL4035X01 uses FiltronTM technology in a small 4mm x 2.36mm x 0.75mm surface mount package that combines photodetectors for proximity and ambient light, signal conditioning ICs, 16-bit ADCs and up to 3 IREDs driver. The sensor is AEC-Q101 certified and has an interrupt function that supports the I2C bus communication interface for portable electronics and smart home, industrial and automotive applications.

Today's devices can be applied to gesture recognition in consumer electronics such as laptops and tablets, printers, copiers and car object detection, anti-collision in toys and robots, lighting control in offices, corridors and public buildings. . Vishay combines all the circuitry needed for these applications into this small form factor device, saving PCB space and making the design of gesture recognition applications more flexible by using external transmitters.

The device includes a programmable interrupt function that sets high and low thresholds to reduce overall power consumption within the application. This feature can be programmed to trigger ambient light and proximity sensors. Using the Filtron technology, the sensor's spectral sensitivity to ambient light is close to the human eye and has a good ability to eliminate background light. The high sensitivity of the device allows the detection distance to reach 500mm.

The VCNL4035X01 has built-in ambient photodiodes with a detection range of 0.004lx to 4.2klx and can be used in designs with dark or high transparency lenses. The accuracy of the sensor is ±10%, which is not affected by the stroboscopic flash. It has good temperature compensation in the temperature range of -40 °C to +105 °C. The VCNL4035X01's proximity sensor uses smart cancellation technology to eliminate crosstalk, while the intelligent duration design allows the sensor to respond quickly when it detects an object.
