Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. today announced the release of a new family of small gate drive transformers, the MGDT, that offers significant space savings in high power defense and aerospace, industrial and medical applications. Vishay Custom Magnetics' MGDT family devices are available in a small 20.57mm x 18.42mm flat package with a height of 11.43mm, low loss, a minimum creepage and clearance of 8mm.
The devices released today use surface-mount or through-hole termination as well as multiple turns ratios to drive high-side MOSFETs and IGBTs on the 1200V bus. Compared with the traditional bobbin and ring winding technology, this transformer flat package footprint of 40% less, 30% lower height, and meet or exceed most of the safety regulations. In addition, the surface-mount MGDT family of devices is the smallest in the industry with creepage and clearance of 8mm.
The transformers operate from 100kHz to 500kHz and are suitable for isolated half-bridge, full-bridge and dual-tube active forward power converters. MGDT series transformer drive to the gate insulation strength of 3750VAC, leakage inductance of 0.5μH, -40 ℃ ~ +85 ℃ in the temperature range of continuous work. The device has strict cell-to-cell compliance and excellent rise time characteristics.
