Vishay's New FRED Pt Ultrafast Rectifier Saves Space, Increases Power Density and Improves Thermal Performance

200V and 600V devices available in automotive and commercial/industrial versions, height 1.3mm, forward current up to 15A

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announced that it has introduced 13 200V to 600V FRED Pt® ultra-fast recovery rectifiers. Both are available in the eSMP series SlimDPAK (TO-252AE) package. Each product has an automotive grade and a commercial/industrial grade. Vishay Semiconductors rectifiers are thinner, have better thermal performance than traditional DPAK (TO-252AA) devices, have higher power density and higher efficiency, and can be used in automotive and communications applications.

The devices released today have a height of only 1.3mm, a forward current of up to 10A for a 200V rectifier, and a 15A for a 600V rectifier. The footprint of the device is the same as that of the DPAK package, which is 43% thin, making the final product even thinner and lighter. At the same time, the heat dissipation area is 14% larger, which results in lower thermal resistance. In addition, the new 15A rectifier can replace D2PAK (TO-263AB) packaged devices.

The rectifier adopts FRED Pt technology, which achieves ultra-fast recovery time of 14ns and ultra-low reverse recovery charge, and can achieve soft recovery function over the entire operating temperature range of -55°C to +175°C. The device's forward voltage drop at 4A is only 0.71V, effectively reducing power loss and improving efficiency. The rectifier is AEC-Q101 certified and meets automotive grade standards. Typical applications include automotive engine control units (ECUs), anti-lock braking systems (ABS), DC/DC converters in HID and LED lighting, and commercial/industrial versions. The product is suitable for communication power.

The new rectifier has a moisture sensitivity level of 1 in the J-STD-020 standard, with a peak LF of +260°C. The device is RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and is ideally suited for automated placement, enabling automatic optical inspection (AOI) in automotive systems.
