Vishay's new high-speed PIN photodiode for wearable equipment

Vishay Intertechnology photodiode department, Inc. today announced the availability of two new high-speed silicon PIN photodiodes, VEMD5510C and VEMD5510CF, that enhance the visible light sensitivity to meet the need for reliable signal detection in wearable equipment, medical and industrial applications. Vishay Semiconductors VEMD5510C and VEMD5510CF with a combination of infrared radiation suppression filter and improve the signal to noise ratio of the black package, with fast switching time and small capacitance, the use of small-size top-view surface mount package.

Photonic diode photodiode area of 7.5mm2, VEMD5510C photographic range of 440nm ~ 700nm, VEMD5510CF the photographic range of 440nm ~ 620nm, reverse current current were 0.6μA and 0.25μA. The device's on-chip suppression filter eliminates non-visible light interference while the black package shields the excess side light. By using these techniques, the VEMD5510C has a spectral sensitivity of less than 5% for radiation with wavelengths exceeding 800 nm and VEMD5510CF for wavelengths exceeding 700 nm, very close to the human eye.

Today's photodiode is available in a small 5mm x 4mm package with a height of 0.9mm for thin profile sensor design. The device is suitable for optical heart rate measurements in wearable devices such as fitness pedometers and smart watches, as well as medical biosensors connected to patient care systems. In addition, these photodiodes can be used in the smoke detector to achieve rapid photoelectric detection, for the display brightness adjustment or dimming function of ambient light detection.

VEMD5510C and VEMD5510CF half sensitivity range of ± 65 °, operating temperature from -40 ℃ to +100 ℃, peak sensitivity of the wavelength are 550nm and 540nm. Photodiodes comply with RoHS and Vishay green standards, halogen-free, moisture-sensitive grade (MSL) to J-STD-020 standard 4, open the packaging can be stored for 72 hours.
