Vishay's new high temperature IHSR inductors provide higher current density for multiphase power supplies

For commercial applications, the device features low DC resistance and a 4mm ultra-thin cross section in a 4040 housing

Recently, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) announced the launch of its first IHSR high temperature commercial inductor series, the IHSR-4040DZ-51. Designed for multiphase high current power supplies and filters in computer, industrial and communications applications, the Vishay Dale IHSR-4040DZ-51 reduces DC resistance by 50% compared to conventional power inductors compared to similar ferrite products. The height of the section is reduced by more than 20%. In addition, the inductor has an unprecedented 5% DC resistance standard tolerance and a minimum of 3% tolerance for more accurate current sampling.

Today's device frequency range is up to 5MHz and is optimized for use in DC/DC converter energy storage and high current filter inductors below the self-resonant frequency (SRF) (see table below). Applications include laptops, desktops and servers; small high-current power supplies and filters; and DC/DC converters for distributed power systems.

The typical DC resistance of the IHSR-4040DZ-51 is very low, about 0.520mΩ, with an inductance of 0.130μH, which allows for higher current densities than competing technologies, and its 4mm cross-section makes the end product thinner and lighter. The inductor operates from a high temperature of +155 ° C and is rated at 92 A to handle high transient current spikes without saturation. The unit is available in a 40mm housing with a 10mm x 10mm version; more housing sizes will be available in the future.

The inductor uses a 100% lead-free (Pb) shielded composite structure that reduces buzzer noise to ultra-low levels and provides high thermal shock, moisture and mechanical shock resistance. IHSR-4040DZ-51 is RoHS compliant, halogen free and meets Vishay's green standards.
