Working temperature is 150 ℃ and the pin layout to meet the requirements of FMEA 40 v, 2.5 A u Module voltage regulator

Saturday, June 23, 2018

Analog Devices (ADI) announces the introduction of the Power by LinearTMLTM8002, a step-down DC/DC μModule® (power module) regulator with 40V rated input voltage (42V abs max) and 2.5A continuous ( 3.5A peak output current in a 6.25mm x 6.25mm x 2.22mm BGA package. The LTM8002 contains a switching regulator controller, power switch, inductor, and other support components. Only a large capacity input and output capacitor and two resistors are needed to complete the design.

The LTM8002's pinout conforms to the FMEA (Failure Mode Effect Analysis) requirement, so if the output is shorted to GND, shorted to an adjacent pin, or a pin is floating, the output voltage will safely remain at or below the regulation voltage. The maximum junction temperature for the H-grade version is 150°C, while the maximum junction temperature for the I-grade version is 125°C. The LTM8002's H-grade version can deliver 2.8A of output current (no heatsink or airflow) at 105°C ambient temperature and 12VIN to 5VOUT transitions. The device combines a wide input voltage range, pin layout that meets FMEA requirements, and features that can operate in high temperature environments and small size solutions, and applications that require more stringent reliability and higher durability such as automotive and industrial equipment. An ideal point-of-load regulator is provided.

The switching frequency can be adjusted by resistors or can be synchronized to an external 200kHz to 3MHz clock to avoid interference by operating the device within or outside of the system's specific frequency or frequency range. The LTM8002 has four modes: Burst Mode® operation, pulse skip mode, pulse skip mode with spread spectrum, and external sync mode. When operating in burst mode, the quiescent current is 25μA, so the LTM8002 is ideally suited for battery-powered systems, especially those that require "keep alive".

The output voltage can be adjusted with a resistor from 0.97V to 18V, or fixed at 3.3V. The wide output voltage range offers versatility and can be used to generate commonly used system bus voltages such as 3.3V, 5V, 12V, and 15V.
