
Linear recently introduced μModule® (micromodule) integrated isolated AnysideTM switch controller, LTM9100, which protects and monitors high voltage DC power supplies up to 1000V, and is used in industrial, datacom, avionics and medical applications where high voltage power supplies need to be controlled. Open and isolated to control circuit protection, operator safety and grounding.
Compared to other relays or discrete-based solutions, the new LTM9100 integrates all the necessary functions into a compact BGA package, including isolated power and digital telemetry, reducing design time, certification and board space.
The LK9100's internal 5kVRMS galvanic isolation barrier isolates the digital interface and switching controller to drive an external N-channel MOSFET or IGBT switch. To ensure the robustness of the barrier, the controller is tested for 6kVRMS isolation performance in production and will be certified to the component-level UL 1577 standard, saving end-equipment manufacturers months of certification time. The I2C / SMBus interface provides isolated digital measurements of load current, bus voltage and temperature, allowing monitoring of the power and energy of the high voltage bus.
Due to the isolation of the LTM9100, it is very easy to configure for high side, low side (ground loop) and floating applications. With a soft-start load, the inrush current is minimized and the current-limiting circuit breaker protects the power supply from overload and short-circuit. The LTM9100 has a variety of features to control the inrush current of hot-swappable boards, AC transformers, motor drives and inductive loads. Adjustable undervoltage and overvoltage lockout thresholds ensure that the load operates only when the input supply is in the active range, and the fully integrated DC/DC converter including the transformer supplies power to the isolation switch control side.
