Linear Technology Introduces 350mA, 42V Input Synchronous Step-Down Switching Regulator LT8606

Thursday, July 26, 2018

Linear Technology Corporation, a subsidiary of Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI), introduced the LT8606, a 350mA, 42V input synchronous step-down switching regulator. At 2MHz switching, the unique synchronous rectification topology provides 92% efficiency, enabling designers to avoid critical noise-sensitive frequency bands (such as the AM radio band) while achieving a very compact footprint. Operating in Burst Mode® keeps quiescent current below 3μA in no-load standby, making it ideal for systems that are always on. Its 3.0V to 42V input voltage range makes the device ideal for automotive applications because it must be used in cold start and vehicle stop-and-go situations with minimum input voltages as low as 3.0V and load transients exceeding 40V. adjust. Its internal 650mA switch provides up to 350mA of continuous output current. The LT8606 maintains a minimum differential voltage of only 175mV (at 300mA) under all conditions, allowing the device to perform well in situations such as when a car is cold. Spread spectrum frequency modulation and special design methods enable low EMI operation, enabling the device to meet the CISPR25 Class 5 EMI limits required by many automotive and industrial applications. In addition, a fast minimum on-time of only 45ns allows switching from a 16V input to a 1.5V output at a constant 2MHz frequency. The LT8606's 2mm x 2mm 8-lead DFN or 10-lead thermally enhanced MSOP package and high switching frequency allow the use of small external inductors and capacitors to create a compact footprint and high thermal efficiency solution.

The LT8606 uses internal high-efficiency power switches for the upper and lower tubes to integrate the necessary boost diodes, oscillators, control and logic circuitry in a single chip. The low ripple burst mode operation maintains high efficiency at low output currents while allowing output ripple below 10mVP-P. Unique design techniques and new high-speed processes allow the device to achieve high efficiency over a wide input voltage range, while the LT8606's current mode topology enables fast transient response and excellent loop stability. Other features include internal compensation, power good flag, output soft start / tracking and over temperature protection.

The LT8606EDC is available in a 2mm x 2mm 8-lead DFN package and the LT8606EMSE is available in a thermally enhanced MSOP-10 package. Industrial temperature grade versions The LT8606IDC and LT8606IMSE are tested and guaranteed to operate over the –40°C to 125°C operating junction temperature range.
