42V, Quad, Triple, Monolithic Synchronous Step-Down Converter and Boost Controller Operates from 3V to 42V Input

Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) announced the LT8603, Power by Linear ™, a high efficiency quad output monolithic switching regulator capable of accepting 42V input voltage. Its flexible design combines a step-up controller with two high voltage 2.5A and 1.5A synchronous buck channels and a lower voltage 1.8A synchronous buck channel to provide four independent outputs. The LT8603 can be configured to provide the step-down controller's input to the buck converter, enabling it to generate three precisely regulated outputs. This is true even when the input drops significantly below the steady-state output voltage (for example, when the battery voltage drops to as low as 3V and the cold car starts or stops).

The LT8603's three-channel step-down synchronous rectification topology offers up to 93% efficiency, while Burst Mode® operation maintains quiescent current under 28μA under no-load stand-by conditions (high-voltage channels are in operation State), ideal for systems that are always on. For noise-sensitive applications, the low-EMI design of the LT8603 meets the CISPR 25 Class 5 EMI limits even when switching at 2MHz. LT8603 switching frequency can be set between 250kHz and 2.2MHz, and can be synchronized within this range.

The 85ns (max) minimum on-time and cascade topology of the LT8603 enables buck switching from 16VIN to 0.8VOUT while performing switching operations at 2MHz, allowing designers to bypass key noise-sensitive bands such as AM Radio) and uses a very compact solution footprint. Its input voltage range of 3V to 42V is well suited for automotive applications where regulation must be performed on cold start and start-stop conditions with a minimum input voltage of 3V and a transient voltage of over 40V. Programmable power-on reset and power good indicators for each channel ensure overall system reliability. The LT8603's 40-pin thermally enhanced 6mm x 6mm QFN package and high switching frequency are used in conjunction with small external inductors and capacitors to provide compact, thermally efficient board area.

The LT8603 is available in a thermally enhanced 40-pin 6mm x 6mm QFN package. The device is available in two temperature grades, with extended (E) and industrial (I) operating temperatures ranging from -40 ° C to 125 ° C (junction temperature). All versions are available from stock.
