Microchip Introduces Two New SAM Microcontrollers with Multiple Connection Interfaces

The SAM D5x and E5x MCUs are not only powerful but also have enhanced security features

Microchip Technology Inc. announced the introduction of the SAM D5x and SAM E5x microcontroller (MCU) families. These new 32-bit MCU series provide a variety of connection interfaces, not only powerful, but also have a hardware-based and reliable security features, suitable for a variety of applications.

This avoids the use of a central processing unit (CPU), improves system energy efficiency, and supports process-intensive applications on low-power platforms. D5x and E5x MCUs operating at speeds up to 120 MHz have 1 MB dual-bank flash memory supporting Error Correcting Code (ECC) and are easily updated in the field without interrupting system operation. In addition, these series of SRAM up to 256 KB, also supports ECC, to provide the necessary support for mission-critical applications such as medical equipment and server systems.

In this way, the system can use high-performance serial flash memory, which is smaller and cheaper than traditional pin-parallel flash memory and meets external memory requirements.

Hardware-based security features include Public Key Cryptography Controller (PUKCC) that supports elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) and RSA schemes, as well as Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) ciphers and Secure Hash Algorithm (SHA).
