STMicroelectronics 74AC373 Octal Transparent Latch
The 74AC373 is a high-speed, octal transparent latch designed and manufactured by STMicroelectronics. It is an integral component for applications that require the temporary storage of data. This device features eight latches with three-state outputs for bus-oriented applications. The 74AC373 is fabricated with advanced CMOS technology to achieve high-speed operation while maintaining CMOS low power dissipation.
Each latch of the 74AC373 is D-type and transparent, meaning that while the latch-enable (LE) input is high, the Q outputs follow the data (D) inputs. When LE is taken low, the data that was present at the D inputs at the time the transition occurred is latched and held stable at the Q outputs until LE is returned high again.
Additionally, the 74AC373 has an output enable (OE) input which, when low, places the eight outputs in a normal logic state (high or low logic levels), and when high, the outputs are in a high impedance state. This high impedance state is particularly useful in shared-bus applications, where multiple devices may need to send data on the same bus lines.
Key features of the 74AC373 include:
- High-speed: tPD = 4.5ns (typical) at VCC = 5V
- Low power dissipation: ICC = 4µA (maximum) at TA = 25°C
- Eight latches in a 20-pin package
- Three-state outputs for bus interfacing
- Guaranteed output skew to minimize timing uncertainty
- Compatible with bus-oriented systems
- ESD protection: HBM > 1 kV
The 74AC373 is suitable for a wide range of applications, including memory address latching, data storage, and multiplexing. Its ability to interface with the high-speed requirements of modern bus systems while providing low power dissipation makes it a versatile choice for designers.
