TPIC6B595 Power Logic 8-Bit Shift Register
The TPIC6B595 from Texas Instruments is a high-performance, monolithic, 8-bit shift register that features a storage register and power MOSFETs with drain-source clamping diodes for driving highly inductive loads. This robust integrated circuit is designed to improve both the performance and density of three-state non-inverting D-type flip-flops that have been manufactured with Texas Instruments’ proprietary silicon-gate technology.
Boasting a wide operating voltage range from 4.5V to 50V, the TPIC6B595 is capable of sinking a high current of 150 mA continuously. It is well-suited for applications that require the serial to parallel conversion of data and control of multiple outputs, such as LED displays, relay drivers, and hammer drivers.
The device includes an 8-bit serial-in, parallel-out shift register that feeds an 8-bit D-type storage register. Data is inputted to the shift register on the rising edge of the shift register clock (SRCK), and the register is cleared by a low on the serial clear (SRCLR) input. The output of the storage register is controlled by the output enable (G) input, which when held high, disables the outputs to a high-impedance state.
The TPIC6B595 is characterized for operation over the full industrial temperature range of -40°C to 85°C. It is available in a 16-pin plastic DIP (N package), a 16-pin small-outline package (D package), and a 16-pin thin shrink small-outline package (PW package).
Key features of the TPIC6B595 include:
- 8-bit serial-in, parallel-out shift
- High-voltage, high-current integrated circuits
- Output clamping diodes for inductive transient suppression
- Low rDS(on) outputs
- Edge-triggered D-type storage register with clear
Whether for driving simple LEDs or complex inductive loads like relays and solenoids, the TPIC6B595 provides a reliable and efficient solution, making it an essential component in a variety of electronic systems.
